This will be an intimate live acoustic music event to celebrate the veteran songwriter’s latest album, ‘Falling Light’, released on 2nd September 2022.

"Phil's songs offer a powerful combination of immediacy and slow-burning subtlety. The veteran songwriter’s latest album, ‘Falling Light’, released on 2nd September 2022, sees Phil again working with producers Boo Hewerdine and Chris Pepper at Saltwell Studio, the venue for his 2019 work, ‘Skywriting’. Boo joins Phil on acoustic guitar and vocals, adding delicate textures on harmonium, piano, and celeste. The stripped down, subtle production features appearances by noted guests: Gustaf Ljunggren on slide guitar, Aaron Catlow on fiddle and Pete Harvey on cello. All but one of the twelve songs is a recent work, largely composed in the twilight zone of necessary isolation. The exception, ‘Dunmanus Bay’, was written in the late 1980s and has proved to be a perennial favourite with audiences and fellow performers.

Phil’s work as a solo performer is evident in a lifetime of folk club appearances. In festival and concert contexts his talented and versatile band – Steve Benford, Mark Walker, Frank McCarthy and Alistair Bloomfield – often join him in a range of line-ups to create a unique sound firmly rooted in folk, interweaving elements of American and Celtic traditions. For the Yellow Wood Cafe album launch Phil will be joined by the esteemed Steve Benford on guitar and banjo"
